In the 1800s, many people heard about gold in California and moved there to find it.

This started when a man named James Marshall found gold. Many went in in 1849, hencce they were called "Forty-Niners."

Imagine small, busy towns in the West. There were places called saloons where people drank and had fun. There were also shops selling tools for mining and other things.

But it wasn’t all gold in California. The original people of these lands, the Native Americans, faced problems because of all the newcomers. And they also wanted their fortune.

Not having enough police made some areas unsafe. Towns offered money to catch bad people, known as criminals. Many soldiers, who had fought in the Civil War and didn’t have jobs after, saw an opportunity to make fortunes by capturing the most dangerous criminals of the country "live or dead", they were the "bounty hunters" and they captured criminals for money reward.

This was a great scenario for movies. That is why many movies was created inspired in this beautiful, promissing but also chaotic scenario.
