Diogenes was a famous philosopher who loved a simple life. He did not want much stuff and decided to live in a big barrel instead of a house. Around him, there were always some dogs, his only friends. Diogenes believed in being honest and living with what nature gives you. He thought that being free and happy was more important than having a lot of things or power.

One day, a very powerful king named Alexander came to see him. Alexander had heard a lot about Diogenes and wanted to give him anything he wished for. But Diogenes, lying in the sun, asked Alexander to move a little so he could enjoy the sunlight. Alexander was surprised and said if he were not Alexander, he would like to be Diogenes.

This story shows us how Diogenes, with his cynic way of life, taught us that happiness comes from being free and living simply, not from having many things.
