Use there is (singular) e there are (plural) para dizer que algo existe — o nosso “há / existe / tem”: There is a problem. / There are three options. O erro nº 1 do brasileiro: usar have com sentido de “há” (por causa do “ter”). Em inglês, “há” = there is/are, não “have”.
“Tem um problema”, “tem três opções” — em português a gente usa “ter” pra dizer que algo existe. Em inglês isso é there is / there are, nunca “have”. Dominar essa estrutura simples evita um dos erros mais frequentes — e mais perceptíveis — de quem está aprendendo.
A regra: singular vs plural

O erro nº 1: “have” não é “há”
- “Há um problema”: ❌ Have a problem → ✅ There is a problem.
- “Tem gente esperando”: ❌ Has people waiting → ✅ There are people waiting.
- have = posse (I have a car); there is/are = existência (there is a car in the garage).
Concordância e negativa
- Concorde com o substantivo seguinte: ❌ There is three → ✅ There are three.
- Negativa: There isn't / There aren't, ou There is no…: There are no tickets left.
- Pergunta: Is there…? / Are there…? — Are there any questions?
O ângulo executivo: apresentar fatos e riscos
Em reuniões e e-mails, there is/are é como você enuncia fatos, opções e riscos com objetividade: “There are three options on the table.”, “There's a risk we miss the deadline.”, “There has been progress.” Direto e profissional.
