Sadio Mané: Transforming His Home Village Bambali in Senegal

Sadio Mané was born in Bambali in the green Casamance region of southern Senegal. As a teenager he left home for a football academy in Dakar, capital of Senegal, then moved to Europe, rose at Salzburg and Southampton, became a star at Liverpool, and later signed with Al Nassr.

His annual pay has been reported around €35 to €40 million, before bonuses and endorsements. With wealth secured, he chose to give back to the village that raised him.

The spark was simple. He often said real success was helping his people, not chasing luxury. He funded a hospital in Bambali for roughly £455,000 and a school for about €250,000. He helped bring 4G connectivity, built a fuel station and a post office, supplied sportswear for children, and rewarded top students with laptops and cash prizes. He also set a monthly transfer €70 per family.
